Vestibular rehab is a unique area of physiotherapy that involves the assessment and treatment for disorders of the vestibular (inner ear) system or central nervous system. Oftentimes these individuals present with dizziness (either constant or intermittent) and/or balance impairments.

Some common conditions that cause dizziness include:

    • Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV)
    • Vestibular neuritis
    • Vestibular migraine
    • Post-Concussion Syndrome
    • Cervicogenic Dizziness
    • Mal de Debarquement
    • Persistent Postural-Perceptual Dizziness (PPPD)
    • Stroke
    • Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
    • And many more.

Dizziness can be frustrating but through the use of objective measures and specific assessment techniques we can determine factors that can contribute and offer strategies to reduce/eliminate these symptoms. We also acknowledge the importance of quality of life and maintaining independence by improving mobility and reducing the risk of falls. Physiotherapy can work to assess the cause of the dizziness and determine an individualized treatment program to help regain control of these debilitating symptoms.
